I've been thinking recently that we are a society that values a Jack of all trades, master of none. To be master takes a lot of time and commitment, why not just be fairly good at a few things? I've been thinking I would quite like to be really good at something, just one thing, I think I'd like to pursue excellence and I think I'm going to do it with my singing voice...
I have found my next great adventure... The Star Wars Convention comes to the UK in May!!! I guttingly had to miss the Revenge of the Sith premiere due to a prior 24-7 speaking engagement so I feel my ship has come in. I finally get to dress up and they'll even train me to be a Jedi. It doesn't get much better than that :D xc
So I've ventured into the world of MySpace and I have to say I'm underwhelmed. Lots of lovely people but a clumsy infrastructure, it's taken me a while to get it to something I like. I much prefer typepad and blogging, a lot more flexibility and freedom. Never the less my presence is now felt and I will maintain it as it's the latest step in my cunning plan to find my old school friend, the hunt for Emma Green is turning into a decade long quest :) xc
I am really proud to be part of 24-7 Prayer and of all the people I'm working with. I spent most of last week in long meetings, working hard and setting budgets and priorities for the movement in the coming year. I would feel entirely confident showing anyone where we put our money and how we're working hard to spread Christ-centred, mission-minded prayer, renewing the Church and empowering communities. You can tell I've been thinking about it, I'm coming over all jargony!
Congratulations to Andy & Andrea who got married in a simple but heart-warming ceremony on Saturday. She was ravishing, he was chuffed and they both spent the afternoon grinning like Cheshire Cats. I really enjoyed trying to capture the moments that made the day in my role as informal photographer.
One moment I sadly failed to capture was the unfortunate fire tearing through pony tail incident. Yours truly set her hair on fire during the vows and had to freak out silently whilst Steve cried with laughter. Kind guests found me afterwards to tell me they saw foot high flames above my head... how do I manage these things? xc
Steve and I made our first spontaneous trip to West Witterings today. I love this sand beach only 15 minutes from our home. We realised as we slipped off our shoes to paddle in the incoming tide that this was our first visit since becoming Mr & Mrs Harding. We have many fond memories of dates here. Candles in jam jars, mexican food as the sun went down, swimming in the freezing sea, bunking work for an afternoon of sunbathing. It was so relaxing just to take an hour out of the day to enjoy the smell of the sea and dream about having a home here part Boiler Room, part retreat for musicians recording at the Steve's studio. Dreaming is fun...
Had a great weekend, feel really chilled today (useful as I'm preparing RACI charts for all things 24-7 online... grrr need more brain power). I pottered in the garden enjoying the glorious sunshine on Saturday and worked hard with the lovely Charlottie-to-Hottie for our talk to Warehouse (the youth and student congregation of Revelation Church) on Sunday. Lottie rocked! Soon she'll be flying solo on the speaking front...
Yesterday I elluded to a third thing that's making me happy at the moment. That third thing is the feedback I'm getting from 24-7 Prayer Rooms around the world. A part of my job is to resource, support and build friendships with people (like Sini, left) praying 24-7 and I often get to be the first to hear what God's been doing. Here are two reports I've written up for the 24-7 website, I hope they encourage you as much as they encouraged me...
C. S. Lewis: The Last Battle (Chronicles of Narnia)
Finished: Instantly one of my favourite books. Incredibly moving. (*****)
Rob Bell: Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith
Current
Rob Bell: Sex God: Exploring the Endless Connections Between Sexuality and Spirituality
Finished - I enjoyed it so much I wanted to go back the beginning and start again (****)
