Guildford Mission Week

Sm0007gibsonoldworld1758Last Monday, the day of the long slow death of my iBook, I had the pleasure of joining 25 dudes and chicks from the US, UK, South Africa, Germany, Netherlands and Bulgaria to chat about what’s happening worldwide in through 24-7 Prayer. These little opportunities are often a God send because even the though the interruption to my working week may be inconvenient, the reminder that God is on the move is inspiring…

As I was putting my thoughts together to bring to the group I realised something quite amazing. Every prayer room experiences five common themes regardless of their culture or nationality. I’ve known this to be true for a while but I hadn’t purposely sat down to check prayer room correspondence and back up my theory before. When I did here’s what I found.

Most 24-7 Prayer Rooms Experience:
1. Faith – a burst of vision, confidence and expectation in the power of God
2. Creativity – prayers of all kinds, in all places, with all kinds of requests
3. Unity – Christians agreeing on Jesus and giving a collective AMEN
4. Holy Spirit – people empowered, inspired and led
5. Mission – becoming the answer to your own prayers

Then I started brainstorming a list of other prayer movements or organisations that have sprung up in the last ten years and got a bit lost. There are loads! God is stirring up prayer and however different the skin may be the fruit is the same.

God’s people, getting together, learning to pray with faith and becoming the answer to their own prayers in a world that needs light.
