Gutted!
Never has an email made me scream so hard for so long! Today Pete Ward broke some terrible news to me in a rather flippent manner... Robert Jordan author of the epic Wheel of Time series died. Very sad, my thoughts are with his family though my vocal disstress was for a slightly more selfish reason...
Jordan was half way through his twelth and final book of the WOT series and has died leaving his mamouth story unfinished. The penultimate book is sitting on my to-read shelf tempting me away from the Christian books I've been planning to read first. Now the my future adventures with Rand, Matt and Perin look bleak. Will anyone pick up his notes and bring the journey to an end? 11 books the size of the Lord of the Rings demand it I think :(
It is truely a great loss when someone cannot finnish a work of that size.

Always sad to hear of the loss of a creative person, though I've never read any of his books.
There wil probably be a half-book published in a similar style to Douglas Adams' Salmon of Doubt. It included what was written of his last book with a load of odments, short stories etc.
Douglas had no excuse though - he only wrote ten books in twenty years, he was just lazy!

Simon I think you'd love the books. It's still worth reading them as Jordan created an epic Tolkien-esque world. It's such a a shame... :( xc

It's strange given my love of most things sci-fi, this might seem like a criminal offence but I never really got into Tolkien. I read the LOTR trilogy after getting it for Christmas 2001 (I think) but it never really got me going. Strange as I love Discworld so much.
