Hurrah, and hurrah again for the lovely, generous and faithful Benjamin McIntyre who will turn the respectable age of 27 tomorrow. Seeing as tomorrow is Monday (boo) and today is Sunday (yay) the Chichester massive (Sven, Ben T, Charlotte, Bex, Ben M, Smiles, Ruthy, Matt H and I) decided we should celebrate with a gloriously muddy walk up, down and around Bignor hill. There's something delightful in being old enough to decide that you want to go and get as muddy as possible, no-one can tell you off! (Keep reading to see just how muddy we got!)
There was one flaw in our plan... the dark. A weaker bunch of city dwellers would have quelled at the thought of climbing up steep banks only to launch themselves down them at high speeds with nothing but the clouded moon to guide them, but not us, we are country foke! (Well sort of... ok, well we're not really, but we're not soft.) There was much hilarity when screams of "Ouch! Ok guys there's a log just there, try to fall at an angle" and "My foots stuck in a b***** root" as a body would spin round at high speeds and land in a spralling mass. We loved it!
(Click on the pic left, it's a classic! Oh and check out my new winter hat!) Good friends, good laughs and lots of lovely mud to bundle each other in! Charlotte refrained from telling us that there was an ice cold stream at the bottom of our path until we stumbled into it. Benji got dunked as we sang Happy Birthday to him! I had a truly wonderful time, got the muddiest I think I've ever been and fell asleep in the car on the way home... Ah contentment indeed.
