Last Thursday, for the American population of the world, was Thanksgiving. Extended families gathered around a horrendous amount of food and stuffed themselves silly, all in the name of thankfulness! In Chi we like to do things a little differently and co-incidentally this years thanks giving fell on Proxy Christmas...
For the ignorant among you, Proxy Christmas is our annual celebration and kick off to the Christmas season held on the 25th of November. My friends have gathered from far and wide to Chi so Christmas can be a baron time for our fair city as we scatter to the winds to celebrate with our families. In order to share in Christmas together we have a practice or 'proxy' Christmas a month early.
This was how I found myself last Thursday cooking Christmas dinner (with a little help from my friends) in a mild panic. The planning, preparation and decor was fine. I'm great at bossing people around and making things look pretty; I had a moment of mild panic though when I realised that I'd volunteered to make enough chicken, roasties, brussels, parsnips, carrots, stuffing, yorkshire puds and gravy for 18 people. This from the girl that struggles not to burn toast! (I was planning on cooking turkey until I went to buy it on the day and discovered it needed 4 days to defrost - Doh!)
In the end it went very well for all - despite the gravy seeping through our paper plates. I'm hoping to have pics up soon so keep your eyes peeled for them. In the meantime, have a very merry Christmas season everyone!
