The Frames are not an awful Folk Band that an old fogy would listen to Mr Freeman! The Frames rock! Last night I fought my way through the London Underground towards Islington to meet my parents, Lisa, Adam and Liam at the Carling Academy to watch… yes you’ve guessed it, The Frames…
I confess I had only heard a song or two before I began my pilgrimage to London, but on strong recommendations from my Dad (whom you must understand has surprisingly good taste in music) and a free ticket, I decided to be rock n roll on a school night.
It was everything a gig should be smelly, packed and engaging. Has anyone else heard any of their stuff? I have to say my curiosity was peaked when I read,
“The Frames and Radiohead are probably my two favourite live rock bands in the world… They set the standard I aspire towards.” Damien Rice
Now who am I to argue with Mr Rice? The gig was good, their mix of humour, changing dynamics, folk and rock were very entertaining. The genius nods to Bob Marley and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in two of their songs were worth the ticket price alone. A good start to music in 2005, I shall be seeking out their album pronto!
