Now that my anticipation for The Life Aquatic has been sated my top ten most anticipated films has had a reshuffle. A strong contender for the top spot (though truly nothing will beat SWE3:ROTS) is A Scanner Darkly, the new Richard Linklater film. It looks incredible!
Based on the Phillip K Dick book of the same title, Empire describes ASD as follows...
"In the world of the future, the war against drugs has been well and truly lost. Many cops are addicted to something called Substance D, which causes multiple personality syndrome - so can they be sure that they aren't the people they're chasing?"
The trailer looks incredible! You have to check it out here... The quality isn't brilliant but even from this rough download you glimpse astounding animation that has to be based on motion caption - it's too good.
The cast is fairly impressive! Keanu (a return to cutting edge form - and he's still hot even when he's animated), Winona Ryder (OK she often mildly annoys me but we'll give her the benefit of the doubt), Woody Harelson (could there be a throw back to Natural Born Killers animi?), Robert Downy Jr and (do my eyes deceive me!?!) Mr Phillip K Dick himself! Surely that's impossible as Phillip died in 82... Maybe they've taken advantage of animation to reserect him for one last bow... It's worth anticipating for this reason alone.
I am salivating in anticipation of New Years Eve. That a really long way away - Doh!
