It is finally complete and by some great mercy I am not dissapointed. Saturday night Steve, Troy, Michaela, Jamie, AJ, Becky and I all qued for 45minutes to get our seat for Revenge of the Sith. I have to admit I was a mixed bag of emotion. Part excited 5 year old, part sceptic fan. As the music began and opening scrall made it's way accross the screen I lost myself in Lucas's world hoping beyond hope that he could pull this tricky transitional film out of the bag. My verdict...
This is what a Star Wars film should be like! Why couldn't he have mastered this sooner??? It was fantastic! The script was lightyears better than the last two, Ewan, Hayden, et al, were given far more to work with and delivered some whopping scenes and all the mellodrama and subterfuge of the previous two episodes came to a head in a fast paced, twister of a plot.
PLOT SPOILER WARNING!
Well obviously the biggest event is obvious and known to everyone but there were a few moments I particularly enjoyed that I'm going to talk about now. You have been warned.
I was really moved by a few scenes, the subtly, lies and manipulation of Palpatine/the Emporer was brilliant (they played him much the way I see the Devil, giving you just enough truth and seemingly honest motivation to entice you into something entirely evil), the death of the younglings (horrible and surprisingly dark), the fantastic opening sequence that showed not only Anankin and Obi Wan's transformation from peace keepers to warriors but Anakin's new found cool composure.
The last half hour stole the film for me with Padme and Anakin's emotional confrontation and Anakin and Obi Wan's inevitable show down;
"You were the chosen one," yells Obi Wan in desperation "You were supposed to distroy the sith not join them..." "I hate you." growls a disfigured and burning Anakin. "I loved you like a brother..." replies his mentor. I was close to tears.
The juxtapostion between Anakins transformation into part man, part machine and Padme's labour; new life and twisted life, their fate's intertwined... I could go on for ages. It wasn't flawless but it was over whelming. I need to see it again. xc
