Today was a good day. I'm sure God would agree. Today an incredible man called Julian Spriggs came to introduce us the his book we're usung to study the whole Bible in a year. Heavy, you may think, but nay, every word that came out of this plain, forty something man was inspirational and full of life, passion and wisdom...
Confession time - I have not read every book of the Bible. I feel that for a long time I've been lacking a foundational understanding of the overarching thread of God's story and each book's place and signifigance in it. I'm really excited about the year to come. I just hope I can sustain my enthusiasm.
Tonight Freeman spoke (excellently!) on the subject of Spiritual discipline; creating a sustainable rhythm of work, study, rest and prayer that repeatedly refocuses us on Jesus and defies the acceleration of our culture yet remains productive and pro-active.
After taking us through a few different methods of contemplative prayer and good tools we can employ through our year of Transit I got to thinking about my own rhythm; daily, weekly, seasonally and annually.
As I think back through the last year I often use the frequency and quality of my journaling as a decent indicator of where I've been with God and the things I've struggled with or celebrated. I'm definitely not consistant but for the first time in my life I have created and maintained a habit that has lasted longer than a year and has really deepened my walk with God.
I need to put more thought into rhythm but as it's 23:14 and I'm typing this under the stars in a beautiful garden here in sunbury I might leave it there. Good night everyone, sweet dreams xc
