It wouldn't be an adventure if Charlotte and I hadn't run into a few hiccups along the way. Sadly the last two days have been no exception to the Thelma and Louise catalogue of calamaties and near misses. In fact we've initiated a new member into our posse of accident prone travellers, today the lovely Pete Greig joins our ranks and adds a new dynamic to the journey...
It began yesterday afternoon when Charlotte boldly rejected taking the train to my parents in favour of roadtripping in style to the midlands. It wasn't until we arrived (2 hours late) that we remembered the reason we were going to take the train in the first place... this morning we flew from Luton but next Monday we fly back to Gatwick...
The bright sparks amoung you will bring that train of thought a step further and realise that we've just stranded Charlotte's car in Northamptonshire. Clever. As I regailed Mum with the tale of our stupidity really building up steam as I launched into the reason we were late (Barclay's Bank!!!!) Charlotte paled and in a quiet voice whispers a single word...
"Passport"
"Funny, don't joke about that"
"No really, I honestly don't have my passport"
"Seriously??? Do you have your Drivers License?"
"Nah I never carry that..."
Utter disbelief! Actually it wasn't as hopeless as it sounds, we realised Pete Greig was driving to Luton from Chichester at 2am so a frantic phone call later and Charlotte was reassured that her passport would be waiting for her at the check in desk... Or so we hoped. We underestimated the power of the Greigster.
At 5.15am as Charlotte and I stood by the easyjet desks my ringtone catches my attention and I answer my phone to a slightly out of breath Pete...
"Carla, good news. I have Charlotte's passport and I'm at the airport."
"Great!"
"Bad news, I'm at Stansted not Luton..."
You may think it's hard to get in a car and drive to totally the wrong airport but Pete has been supremely busy and was driving at silly O'clock in the morning. One mad dramatic dash around London later and Pete and Charlotte missed check in by only three minutes and had to content themselves with a cup of tea and breakfast as the rest of the 24-7 crew took off towards Dresden.
Rather amusing and slightly frantic start to the 24-7 Round Table. It's no wonder we're having to work on our organisation if three members of the International Office can't get themselves from Chichester to Herrnhut without tieing ourselves in knots. Please pray for us, I'm sure we need it... xc
