I have had the most lovely, relaxing and romantic week before Christmas. I was smugly organised in my present purchasing this year (apart from one annoying order loosing hiccup with Amazon) so I have had none of the frantic rushing through the Christmas crowds for that illusive Dad present...
In all honesty I've spent the last few days sleeping in, wrapping presents with silver bows, eating great food with friends without clock watching, reading fiction (oh I've missed it so) and hanging out with my handsome and playful fiance.
Actually yesterday was probably my favourite day as we packed my picnic hamper with soup and bread and grapes and chocolate moose and champaigne (oh yes, takes breeding to combine such common and refined foods) and trecked up the Trundle (a local hill - surprisingly nothing to do with my family).
As we over looked the sussex coast with our back to the downs we had our own private celebration of our engagement; toasting to the many many years and picnics to come. We even began a journal with stick men illustrations of our trip to Venice, sticking in receipts, photos and boarding cards to flesh out the journey. Ah the romance of the geeks. It's wonderful...
Right now we're home in Grendon for Christmas Eve and most of Christmas day. We just went on our annual crimbo eve trip to the cinema to see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and now we're stuffing ourselves with chicken and bread and salad and watching Mum serve up her best desert... Bishop's Velvet!
Hmmm... I love Christmas! A few more hours and then we'll be reading the nativity and The Night Before Christmas...
"Merry Christmas to all,
And to all a good night!"
