It's a funny thing to be reminded that the brother you fondly think of as an adroable little boy is actually a man. Even stranger to realise that his growth reflects our own, I am no longer the enthusiastic teenager I was when I tread the boards he broached last night...
As Steve and I entered my School of Christmas past (otherwise known as Wollaston) I was amazed by how much/little has changed in eight years. In the main hall I crammed into for dance and drama, assemblies and performances hung engraved wooden placks adorning the walls marking students acheivement.
I've performed on the stage in that hall many times, my name is scratched onto one of the boards to comemorate my enthusaism. I've returned to see my Sister perform (her name adorns the boards three times - jammy cow! - only joking, very proud, not at all threatened ;) and Wednesday night I returned again a little older, hopefully wiser to watch my brother, towering above his peers and cutting a rather fine performance as Captian VonTrapp in the Sound of Music!
I wasn't sure what to expect, I knew he'd be good, I just didn't know how good... Adam absolutely rocked!! He has a lovely smooth deep voice and a confident commanding air on stage! He even acted with his eyebrows, staying in Character and stealing a couple of kisses with the leading lady with terrifying ease. I think the whole audience knew his family was in the audience by the muted screams and less muted giggles coming from our row. There's something terribly wrong about watching a sibling kiss someone...
As I passed my old head master, shook his hand and introduced him to Steve he smiled and said, "Nice to have the Royal Family back together again." He always was a shmoozer. To be fair, the Trundle have built a bit of a reputation for ourselves. We are very different people, enjoying a variety of subjects and activities, but Lisa, Adam and I share one thing in common, all three love the stage. When Lisa dances every eye is one her, the quality of her movement and the energy on her face is captivating. When Adam sings I'm surprised at his deep smooth voice and impressed by the conviction by which he jumps into a role, thinking of the little nuances and reactions to make it a little more authentic. I just strutted and wore various outfits with great enthusiasm and embarrasement. Lili and Adam certainly conducted themselves with a little more decorum. As we gave Adam a standing ovation as he took his final bow I have to say I was very proud of him. He's a talented young man and I love him very much... xc
