Through a happy discovery of distant family my Dad's been musing on our family history and ethos today. He sent Deborah and I an email with a brief history of the Trundle family and included something I'd never heard before. We have a family motto, and it's a pretty fantastic one: Be just and fear not...
Justice and courage. Wow. It's a lot to live up to but I love that my heritage is marked by such challenging words. Family motto's are sadly dieing out but if we each lived by the noble ideals of yesteryear, passed from parent to child the aspiration of our ancestors, maybe we would reclaim something we've lost in our post-postmodern culture.
I'm taking our motto forward. I wonder if the Hardings have a crest and motto? Maybe I can slip the Trundle family motto into the Harding family line... xc
