Our grand Oscars night plans were scuppered Friday by the realisation that Rupert Merdock is a greedy man. I was in a high state of hiper activity planning how to make my pin the tail on the Oscar game, writing my fake acceptance speach and developing my sweepstake winning predictions when disaster struck: Sky was the limit...
It's been a couple of years since I watched the Oscars live and was jubilantly looking forward to Jonathon Ross's repartee as he led us through the numerous comercial breaks of the evening: ah the BBC, that pillar of anti-advertisement. To my horror I realised that the BBC had been out bid a few years ago by the coniving company BSkyB, who took said glamorous event and broadcast it on one of their most expensive channels.
I refuse to pay £30 a month to see something that was previously free (Grrrrrrrr) >:( Capitalism is really annoying sometimes! The long and short of it is that we had to cancel our through the night oscars party and catch up with the events online this morning instead. Steve is now secretly glad because he assures me that he would have just been really frustrated that The Departed one the big two anyway. Oh well, every cloud has a silver lining... xc
