I’ve finally managed to clear a space in my reading diary for Richard Foster’s respected book on the nature of prayer. Only a couple of chapters in I have to say I’m not disappointed…
I love his humility and confidence in God “I am speaking for all the prayerless persons I have been and for the prayerful persons I hope to become.” It’s one of those books my heart is ready to read. This is a good time to hear this message, learn these lessons and join in his admiration.
“Loving is the syntax of prayer. To be effective prayers we need to be effective lovers.”
Yesterday was a unique gathering of our Church. I wrote some weeks ago about God calling us to wait in him, be still and push into His presence. The Fab Four who lead Revelation Church have grabbed the bull by the horns, cancelled our next couple of speakers (politely I’m sure) and cleared space in our weekly gathering to wait.
Yesterday morning was the beginning. It was awesome; God was awesome. Some people were meeting deeply with the Holy Spirit, others simply soaked, some seemed hesitant but again and again, through words, songs and movement God was inviting each person to be aware that He was standing right next to them.
I love it. It was prayer at it’s most enjoyable, whether I was expressing it with words, thoughts, smiles, movement, song or feeling I was just there, before my Lord, with my family. I can’t wait for our next gathering. There’s something great about meeting God together.
I want to take those experiences, those catch ups, those grins at my Father out. I’ve had some great times with God and friends recently. Spontaneously or in Revs or 24-7 contexts, but reading this book I want to ignite that hunger to burn deeper in my private prayer.
I’ll let you know how the book goes, if anyone’s reading/wants to read/or has read it I’d love to hear you thoughts. I am reading for the prayerless persons I have been and the prayerful persons I hope to become. Lots of love and many blessings xc
