Friday night was fantastic! Stephen and I hosted the fancy dress Deathly Hallows Dinner Party and our friends arrived in incredible costume ready to celebrate the end of an era. I came as Nymphadora Tonks, Stephen as Remus Lupin, Nelly as Lucious Malfoy, Matt as Kingsley Shacklebolt, Will as Dudley Dursley, Helen as Rita Skeeter, Adam as Severus Snape and to trump us all Lisa came as Cybil Trelawny (left)...
The house was decorated, the feast was sumptuous and the games were plentiful. We made our predictions for book seven, competed as the four Hogwarts Houses in my supreme 50 question Harry Potter quiz and played an adapted version of Mallets Mallet naming students and magical creatures.
Griffendors won, of course, and the Slytherins lost, of course. It's destiny. We tested our noodle over such canundrums as:
Who are the authors of the Marauders Map (Names & Nicknames)?
How much did Caractacus Burke pay for Salazar Slytherin's locket?
How long does it take to brew a batch of Felix Felicis?
After much revelry we went in full glorious costume to join the hundreds of other fans queing at Chichester's book shops for the midnight sale of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was like a street festival with adults and kids dressed up and excited. As I purchased my very own copy of the last installment in the series I skipped home with Stephen (or I skipped he looked cynical) and jumped into bed resisting the urge to stay up all night reading.
Charlotte and Jamie were getting married on Saturday so we dedicated ourselves to being entirely present. However when Sunday dawned we huddled away for a whole day reading the book aloud to each other and muddling over the plot twists and turns. We're about half way through and loving it! Not what I was expecting but good all the same. xc
