Saturday night was an absolutely blast! Steve, Nathan, Rees, Jim and I wailed, rocked and funked out at Andrea Clarke's 40th Birthday Party. It was the first time we've performed two sets of material and I have to say, I would've enjoyed boogieing to us, there's only one song choice I'd change and a few old classics I think we're yet to throw in, but all in all everyone had a good time...
During the first set my most dreaded fear happened: I totally forgot the words to a song. I've had to learn over 20, so far so good, but on Saturday night I was playing the how fast can one side of my brain make up rhyming lyrics whilst the other half franticly riffles through the filing cabinets of my memory to find what I'm supposed to be singing game.
Thankfully no one but the band noticed and I was back on track pretty fast with a smile on my face throughout. Phew!
We got a little interest from people wanting to chat about how to book us for future gigs and Andrea the wonderful evangelist that she is was telling everyone that we all played in the Church worship band though maybe not these songs particularly.
While I was singing Signed, Sealed, Delivered though it suddenly struck me how great the lyrics were and how apt they would be to sing to God. In my head I was picturing a whole lost son musical comprised solely of Stevie Wonder tracks. Hmmm there might be something in that.
So The DeLoreans have played another gig and I have to say I love it. It's great to be doing something musical that takes me into new places and introduces me to new people. It's not bad from my puny T-Rex arm muscles either. PAs are heavy... xc
