So the musing and listing begins... as the end of the year approaches I'm reflecting on the joys, adventures and highlights of 2008. To kick off here are some of my favourite books of this year. They weren't necessarily released this year, merely I only discovered and dove into them in the last twelve months. So in no particular order...
Communicating for a Change by Andrew Stanley
I haven't done a lot of speaking this year as I didn't think I was very good at it and wanted to take a break to consider how I could improve and why I should speak. This book was lent to me by the ever excellent (and one of the most consistently challenging speakers I've heard) Eloise Armstrong. It definitely makes some great points and I'm gonna try out some of it's structure ideas in the new year :)
Sex God by Rob Bell
I read this and Velvet Elvis over the summer and enjoyed both. This in particular though was a surprisingly rounded look at our sexuality and what God's got to do with it. It's a book I finished and immediately though... "Hmm, I'd like to read that again."
The Last Battle by C. S. Lewis
Though I first read parts of the Chronicles of Narnia as a child I only dived into it's last installment this year. I absolutely loved it. I was moved to tears. Read it.
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Top of my totally enjoyable junk reading this year was Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. It was a surprisingly enjoyable even with all the slightly annoying angst and I did enjoy her take on Vampires (the Cullen brand of veggie vamps are a metaphor for abstinence). If you love romance, adventure and good teen fiction take a look. If you hate Dawson's Creak, moaners and low brow entertainment look elsewhere. Team Edward!
