It did not disappoint. As I briskly walked from the pub to the cinema to watch the new Star Trek film all on my lonesome I could feel my anticipation peaking. Here was a re-imagining of a world that accompanied my growth. Never a huge fan of the original series (though I think I've seen nearly all of them) my Star Trek passion was piqued with Next Generation (Pickard is still the ultimate captain), deepened with DS9 and brought to geek levels with Voyager. In fact I only stopped watching one Trek incarnation or another when I moved to Uni and was sans TV.
I am a big admirer of Mr Abrams, Cloverfield asside I have loved his TV adventures (Felicity, Alias, Lost, Fringe... am I missing any?), and as I entered the cinema I had confidence that he was the man to make Kirk the captain of the naughties... I was not disappointed...
I was crying within ten minutes, laughing out loud along with my fellow watchers and gasping at the unveiling of every known and loved character. The reinventing was brilliant, the action had me at the edge of my seat and the film lacked the drag that other Trek films have suffered from. I absolutely loved it. 4 1/2 stars! You MUST GO SEE IT! I shall be taking it in for a second time in the not too distant future... xc
