It's official; John Green has become one of my favourite authors.
“Will Grayson, Will Grayson” (written in collaboration with David Levithan) is the third book of his I’ve read, and like the previous two I absolutely loved it. Green has the ability to write characters that jump off the page and feel truly authentic in all their flawed glory.
His latest literary offering has an interesting premise. Will Grayson, Will Grayson explores how a chance meeting drastically alters the life path of two people with the same name. Their journey explores love, relationship, friendship, depression, sexuality, truth and how we form and evolve our self-image. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea as there is strong language and sexual references, but it made me laugh out loud and cry in public.
Seriously.
I’m not joking.
Weeping.
On a busy train.
The characters and relationships at the centre of this story felt so real I was celebrating and mourning with them page after page. I recommend this book if you’re interesting in a coming of age tale of teens exploring their identity and coming to terms with their sexuality in the modern world. I have now pre-ordered my signed copy of his next book "The Fault in our Stars" and can't wait to hear it thud through our letter box.
