There is only so many times you can hear a book praised to the high heavens before you feel you ought to give it a read. That’s pretty much what brought me to Timothy Jones’s book, “The Art of Prayer”. Friends with great taste have raved about his contribution to the sea of literature on talking to God, and I have to say, they weren’t wrong.
It definitely floats to the top.
It’s brilliant.
Though my reading of “The Art of Prayer” has undoubtedly suffered from being put down and picked up over a busy few months, the value in these pages has not been lost on me. In grounded and demystifying language, Jones explores the highs, lows, beauty and challenge of prayer without once making it sound boring. This is quite a feat! I have been reminded of things I’ve forgotten, taught things I never knew, and brought through a rich tradition of prayer from a very personal perspective.
If you find prayer difficult or just fancy a refresher I highly recommend this read. It’s a good foundation and a very easy book to engage with. It definitely improved the quality of my conversation with God.
